Tagged

I've been thinking to myself that I should post something on this poor neglected blog. But I've been busy and important. Ha. There's nothing like a friend calling me out to get the posting going. Julie tagged me for this. She posted a pared-down version, and I tracked down the original because I'm an over-achiever like that.

1. Add a direct link to your post below the name of the person who tagged you. Include the city/state and country you’re in.

Julie (Campbell/South Bay, California, USA)
Barbara (Pretoria North, South Africa)

2. List your top 5 local eating places.

This list will make it clear that I haven't been eating out a whole lot around here. Plus, I'm branching out a bit beyond the Pretoria area.

Olympia Cafe (Kalk Bay): I ordered the Butternut Soup, which was awesome, especially because it showed up on the bill as "Butt Soup." Then there was the yellowtail that Tyler said was "absolutely beautiful." It was.

Luigi's Trattoria
(somewhere along the Chapman's Peak drive on the Cape Peninsula): The gnocchi was fabulous. So was pretty much everything everyone else ordered. There was a great sign on the wall giving several reasons to be patient if the food were to take a while. My favorite: "You are in a beautiful seaside town. Relax and enjoy yourself!" (Not so fabulous was the chef who came over to our table, asked if everything was ok, then stroked the side of my face and said: "Looks like you've been out in the sun!" I don't care if you are a delightful Italian old man. I don't know you. Don't touch my face!)
Pappa's (Hatfield, Pretoria): I've only been there once, but will definitely return. The desserts were beautiful. It has a cute, funky, artsy atmosphere, and the sign out front has a guy with a chicken on his plate. As in, a live one. With feathers and stuff. Can't beat that.
Nando's: The closest you can get to Mexican around here--actually Portuguese, I think. It's a chain, but man, those are some good chicken wraps.
Dros: This is totally not a top 5, but I'm putting it here just so I can work in a comment about ordering ladies' rump.

And one more note: I think I can make it through the rest of the year without going to Spur again.

3. Tag 5 other people and let them know they’ve been tagged.

I'm not even sure who reads this anymore, so this'll be interesting.
